Global Force Management, Readiness and Advanced Data Science

Problem

The Department of the Air Force (DAF) had a myriad of human resources, financial management and operational management systems that lacked the ability to share, combine, analyze or display data to inform decision making.

Solution

eSimplicity provided advanced science services to federal defense agencies to bolster their operational capabilities, ensuring data-driven and informed decision-making in critical areas of national defense and space exploration.

Outcomes

Over 180 authoritative data sources are integrated successfully, enabling us to guide mission needs, and develop strategic and tactical solutions. Our experts cut through roadblocks typically inherent in most data platforms to conduct analysis, automate user workflows and share information in a way to drive commander’s decision making.

Single streamlined process to resource and execute a unit deployment

The Department of the Air Force (DAF), spanning the US Air Force (USAF) and US Space Force (USSF), had a myriad of human resources, financial management and operational management systems that lacked the ability to share, combine, analyze or display data to inform decision making. Time and effort were wasted reinventing solutions to common problems, and often decisions were made without the benefit of all the available information.

Moreover, any new tools to help with data integration, analysis, and display required extensive documentation and approval from each data source owner.

The compliance process delayed the delivery of tools and capabilities to meet mission needs, and often the necessary data feeds were missing. Creating budget plans was difficult using this disjointed system. It was likewise burdensome for the DAF to audit ongoing projects and prepare units for deployment, impacting time to operational readiness. These barriers limited the DAF’s ability to use data as a weapon in our nation’s defense. eSimplicity partnered with DAF and Palantir to deliver the solution.

Process & Solution

eSimplicity worked with data systems owners to bring their data into the Envision platform and help create a common environment where all USAF and USSF teams could see and use data from financial, personnel, and operational management source systems.

We worked closely with government customers and Palantir’s technical leadership, guiding mission needs, workflow mapping, and technical solution integration. Our team ensured documentation adherence to the stringent regulations and policies set forth by DAF, USAF, USSF, and DOD, smoothing the way for the integration of over 180 authoritative data sources.

We managed the ingestion and standardization of dozens of data sources, resolving technical, policy, and documentation issues. Using our deep understanding of our customers and their mission-related issues, we worked with Envision Engineers to create applications and workflows to meet and exceed their operational needs.

Our deep understanding of the various DAF missions provided feedback the engineers needed when they translated customer requirements into capabilities.

eSimplicity’s provided feedback and guidance to help develop a solution that enables the on-boarding of over 200,000 USAF and USSF users, to include military personnel, government civilians and contractors, ensuring they were getting the full benefit of the new system and that their data was accurate for financial, human resources, and operational administration.

Outcomes

eSimplicity had a clear understanding of the USAF and USSF pain points and facilitated the development and use of capabilities within Envision to conduct analysis, build user workflows and display information in a way to drive commander’s decision making. Our Program Management team provided experts in data connection facilitation, documentation, system compliance and customer requirements to cut through roadblocks typically inherent in most data platforms. We enabled the translation from customer needs to engineering design so that the DAF receives the capabilities they ask for in a timely manner.

We constantly engaged with customers across the DAF to reduce duplication of effort and thus the waste of resources by leveraging existing capabilities to solve problems that similar units faced. In addition, we facilitated lessons learned from across the DAF so that new builders no longer must start from scratch. Ultimately, the eSimplicity Program Management team linked customers with tools and data to reduce wasteful overhead and saving time and money across the DAF.

eSimplicity provides ongoing support to the DAF’s Envision users through user engagement forums, help-desk support, routine publications, public virtual and in-person meetings, and calls with users to help them with their problems.

eSimplicity is a committed partner to our nation’s military, making sure they have accurate, actionable data available for their current and future mission needs.
